Practice Space User Spotlight: Studio IV

Studio IV is Erin Ellis’s private violin and viola instruction studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Erin has been studying violin since she was seven years old and began playing viola as an undergraduate student at Georgia State University. She is extremely passionate about empowering self expression in her students through music.

Erin has been using Practice Space since the beginning of this school year with the majority of her students at Studio IV! We sat down with Erin to discuss how she uses Practice Space and how the platform has improved her students’ and teachers’ experiences!

Q: What have your students enjoyed the most about Practice Space?

Erin: “They all love the leaderboard! Also, the older students really like that I can just put a PDF in there for them and they don’t have to go searching for their sheet music. We mark and upload things so they have everything they need in one place, which actually makes everything a lot easier for me too.”

Q: What have you as a teacher enjoyed the most about the platform?

Erin: “I love having all of my media in one place! Every week, I give my students a new piece to listen to that isn’t in their repertoire, just something that I like or something that has a good example of what we’re working on and I can just put the YouTube link right in there and add it for everybody so I’m not going through and retyping it every single time. I like that we can record together in the lessons when we’re working on something specific, but also that I can just use old recordings that I’ve made from the teacher library for other students. I used to go from Vimeo to another program where I’d keep my attendance and it was just a lot, so it’s really nice having everything in one place- I feel like I can give my students more!”

The Practice Space leaderboard is known to increase motivation through healthy competition. Listen to how this feature has helped Erin’s students with motivation, engagement, and excitement, especially during online learning!

Erin sent out a survey to her students as a practice check-in to see if they need any additional assistance as well as to see how they’re liking Practice Space! Here are some of her students’ feedback:

“I like that Practice Space has all these different controls, like you could see how long you practiced and you can save your practice for later instead of having to keep the app open.”

“I don’t have anything I dislike about Practice Space because I love it!”

“I like that I can get a personalized practice plan. I don’t really dislike anything about Practice Space.”

“I like the prizes and trophies.”

Thank you so much to Erin for sharing your experience with the Practice Space app and overall platform. We’re thrilled to hear that the app has helped you and your students on their journey to musical success and fulfillment! Learn more about Erin and Studio IV here.
