Rewards, Gems and Practice Points - How they work!
There are a lot of different thoughts and approaches on extrinsic and intrinsic motivators, and in Practice Space we researched ways to make sure we are offering a balance of instant rewards and long-term challenges that help create long-term goals for students. These two sides of the reward spectrum can be exemplified by a student completing an assignment and receiving a practice gem to a student getting a one-year practice streak which is simply not possible without a great deal of intrinsic motivation and discipline.
We wanted to provide educators using Practice Space a clear understanding of the avenues through which students can earn rewards.

Practice Streaks
When students practice everyday continuously they earn practice streaks! Each streak award comes with a badge and some gems. Some also come with a certificate, which you can find in the teacher web app under downloads. Anytime a student earns one that gets them a certificate, you will get an email notifcation!

Practice Awards
When students complete one practice, complete a certain number of practices or go above their practice time goal, they also received some in-app awards. All of these also come with some bonus gems. Here is the breakdown:

Leaderboard
The leaderboard is for your studios students only and resets every Sunday!
How it works:
When you create a lesson for a student you can set their practice goal
When a student reaches their goal they get 100 practice points (which are not gems). The amount of points they get is always a percentage of the goal that they have completed. We did it this way to make it fair amongst all of the levels and ages a studio often accommodates.
If a student doesn’t reach their goal, they get the percentage of the goal they completed as points. So if the goal is 20 minutes, and they do 10 minutes, they get 50 practice points.
If a student does 100% of the goal, they get 100 practice points.
If a student goes over, for every 10% they go over, they get an extra practice point. So doing double your goal would get you 110 points!By default 1st prize gets 50 gems, 2nd gets 30 and 3rd gets 20. You can change this in the web app under “Leaderboard”
With gems students can get different avatars and backgrounds (click here for an example post on this), they can get streak freezers in the app, or they can get items from your own custom shop.
